END OF YEAR AWARDS ANNOUNCED

SAN DIEGO - July 27, 2012 - Madison 56ers forward Carlos McCrary has been named the National Premier Soccer League Player of the Year and FC Sonic goalkeeper Charlie Sales has been named Goalkeeper of the Year.

The announcements were made in conjunction with the NPSL Final Four being held in San Diego this weekend. Both players helped their respective teams advance to a position in the league semi-finals.

A native of Roswell, Ga., who now lives in Madison, Wisc., McCrary helped the University of North Carolina to the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship in his sophomore year. McCrary had three goals and one assist in 19 appearances last season for the Tar Heels (21-2-3).

He came on as a major presence for the 56ers, scoring 17 goals in all competitions, including two in last week’s 2-1 playoff win over playoff win over AFC Cleveland.

Sonic’s ascent in the Keystone Conference has been due in large part to the team’s defense, backstopped by  Sales, who has posted 10 clean sheets this year.

A native of Springfield, Ill, Sales spent two seasons at Lehigh University before transferring to Western Illinois for his junior season in 2007. This is his third year with FC Sonic.
