Man-down Brooklyn Italians prevail
Moriken Sangary scored in the 73rd minute as the shorthanded Brooklyn Italians defeated the Rhode Island Reds, 2-1, on Saturday night.
Sangary controlled a ball played behind the defense by Christian Camacho, then dribbled around goalkeeper Byron Register to put away the game-winner.
“I was playing very high next to the last defender lurking around," Sangary said. "Camacho played a great ball, I took off and dribbled around the goalkeeper and I just knocked it home.”
Cristian Turizo scored in the 62nd minute, on a very clever goal, to draw the Italians (5-2) even.
Brooklyn went down to 10 men in the 83rd minute, after Arthur Kulkov was shown his second yellow card of the match. Referee Igor Gvozdik brought out the card after Kulkov was called for a trip from behind. Andreas Wilder scored for Rhode Island (1-1-3) in the 26th minute, a quality goal that gave goalkeeper Antonio Salluzzi (four saves) no chance.
