Baby Bulls
It's not just Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls that are on a hot streak. The NPSL version, the Red Bulls Academy Under-23s, won back-to-back games over the weekend to open the league season at 2-0.
On Saturday, they opened the season with a 3-0 win over the Seacoast United Phantoms. Christian Battistesa scored the first-half goal, unassisted, in the 18th minute, and John Gurel had a part in both second-half goals, netting a goal in the 63rd minute on an assist from Victor Manosalvas and then helping on Keith Francisco’s score in the 88th minute.
The RBA U23s followed that up with a 2-0 win over the Seacoast United Mariners on Sunday.
The first goal was a connection between Gurel and Manosalvas, as Gurel served the ball from left wing and about 30 yards out into the box, where the unmarked Manosalvas chipped it home from near the penalty spot in the 11th minute.

Gurel has a goal and two assists in two matches, as he followed a goal and an assist on Saturday with Sunday’s assist. Manosalvas, who scored the first goal Sunday with an assist from Gurel, had recorded an assist on Gurel’s Saturday goal.

Critical Mass
Mass United earned its first National Premier Soccer League win of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 decision over former USL-PRO side FC New York at Lynn's Manning Field.

United took the lead in the 43rd minute, when forward Deni DaSilva took the ball just past midfield and charged forward, taking the FCNY defense by surprise and blowing by them on the way to goal. He rounded FCNY goalkeeper Hector Guerrero and put a well placed shot into the net.

United seemed to take firm control of the game in the 60th minute when a beautiful feed from midfielder Admilson Miranda left Marcus Pizzetti one-on-one with a defender on the right side. Pizzetti pushed the ball back inside just enough to let fly a curling shot with his left foot that ringed off the post and in.

Almost as soon as United doubled their lead, FCNY struck back to halve the deficit once again. The goal came off a corner kick that somehow ended with goal-scorer Tyler Bothe and three other FCNY players alone in front of the net.

Storm Spotter
A stoppage time penalty kick by Andres Bueno gave the Santa Clarita Storm a 2-1 win over Real San Jose Saturday night.

The Storm went up 1-0 in the 42nd minute when defender Gregory Quintero received a pass from Alex Harlley and threaded the ball through traffic.

It only took only minute into the second half for San Jose to come back with a goal of their own, when midfielder Bronil Koochoie got a pass from Omar Valdez and evened the score with a shot that got past Storm Keeper Steven Rodriguez.
