FC Santa Clarita Partners With Penny Lane
FCSC Committed To Help Neglected And Abused Children

December 4, 2011

Santa Clarita, CA - Futbol Club Santa Clarita (FCSC) is proud to announce a new partnership with the Penny Lane Foundation.

Ivelise Markovits founded Penny Lane Foundation in 1969 with one mission in mind:  to foster the hopes and dreams of today’s youth by empowering children and families to reach their highest potential.

Penny Lane Foundation cares for over 1,400 abused and neglected children from all backgrounds regardless of  race, age, gender, religion, marital status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, sexual expression and identity.

Penny Lane provides therapeutic residential services and education for teenagers including; foster family home placement, adoption services, transitional housing for young children from Penny Lane and other agencies and schools.

Markovits, fresh out of college with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a 60’s sense of social consciousness, began her career as a Los Angeles County Probation and Placement Officer.  She earned an M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling and later received her license as a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor.

Markovits’ dream was to provide a home for deeply troubled teens.  In December 1969, Markovits’ dream became a reality
when she started the Penny Lane Foundation.  "Penny Lane" was taken from the Beatles hit song that celebrates the simple joys of life.  The Penny Lane Foundation is headquartered in North Hills, California with additional outpatient and foster family services in Antelope Valley and the City of Commerce.

According to Gerald Brunner, owner of FCSC, "Penny Lane has two things that appealed to us; 1) Like Penny Lane Foundation,  FCSC  began with a dream.  FCSC believes ’What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.’
And 2) Penny Lane’s goal is ’to foster the hopes and dreams of today’s youth by empowering children and families to reach their highest potential.’  Similarly, at FCSC, we strive to help young athletes to reach their highest potential in the sport of soccer."

During the 2012 NPSL season FCSC will support the Penny Lane Foundation  in the following ways:

  • By donating all proceeds from the ticket sales of two FCSC home matches.
  • By having promotions at every FCSC home match to help raise awareness of the Penny Lane Foundation.
  • By distributing Penny informational items at all FCSC home matches.
  • By conducting free soccer clinics for the children of the Penny Lane Foundation.
  • By wearing  the Penny Lane Foundation logo on the front of all FCSC jerseys.
  • By dedicating a page on the FCSC web site where fans can make donations to Penny Lane Foundation.

“We are hopeful that this is the beginning of a long-term partnership. This is an exciting opportunity and we are proud to be a part of such a great cause,”  said Brunner.
