BUFFALO, N.Y.—The National Premier Soccer League is proud to announce the formation of the 2010 NPSL Winter Season, running September 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011.
The Winter League will compliment the already existing NPSL Premier Season which runs yearly from April 1-August 1.
Four Texas based teams comprise the inaugural 2010 NPSL Winter Season. Texas Lonestrikers, Regals SC, Galveston Pirate and Corpus Christi Fuel will play a 18 game league schedule combined with several high profile friendlies.
“As Commissioner of the NPSL I am excited to see our original vision for the league start to come together.” said NPSL Commissioner Dan Trainor. “With the addition of the winter league we now offer our teams an opportunity to play year round and keep their teams together and better prepared for the Premier Summer season. “
The winter league was formed based on the interest from many different teams across the United States. The NPSL traditional season did not allow teams to stay together year round. This limitation created a slow start to our summer season and many teams asked to play year round, which creates a greater opportunity for player development.
“The groups I’ve been speaking with from around the country felt that the short Premier Season should be enhanced with a longer schedule.” said Director of New Team Development Christopher Keem. “This positions us to get more teams in our league and to make it more attractive to business owners looking to establish clubs. Having established groups come in with this change will continue to demonstrate why our league is considered the best rising National League with the best business model in all of minor league soccer.”
The NPSL Winter League is open to all interested teams in the United States. Any persons or teams interested in learning more about the NPSL should contact Chris Keem, Director of New Team Membership at ckeem@npsl.info.
