Brooklyn Italians Join NPSL in 2010

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club announced they have joined the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) for the 2010 season. The club will be part of the Northeast Division of the NPSL. “We are excited to enter the NPSL, and compete at a national level. This is a new chapter in the storied history of the club,” said long time President, Jerry Valerio.

The Brooklyn Italians Men’s side has long been an anchor organization in the fabled Cosmopolitan Soccer League of Eastern New York. Recognizing the rapid growth of the game’s popularity since the 1994 World Cup, Brooklyn Italians has kept a close eye on the local and national trends and has determined that the American game’s future lies in well-structured, financially-supportable national leagues. “The NPSL franchise is the top layer of our club pyramid as we look to provide a clear pathway to players to move through our development system,” said Valerio. “We look forward to the next chapter of success as we welcome interested players into tryouts in preparation for 2010.”

The league has 32 teams from around the country competing in four conferences. The Brooklyn Italians NPSL club will compete in the Northeast Division. The division will have two Conferences, Atlantic Conference and the Keystone Conference. Brooklyn Italians will compete in the Atlantic conference which includes, New York Red Bulls, Long Island Academy FC, New York Athletic Club, Morris County Colonials, New Hampshire Rapids, and Boston Tea Men. The Keystone Conference will include, Erie Admirals, F.C. Buffalo, Pocono Snow, FC Reading Revolution, FC Sonic, TSC Maryland Red Devils, and New Jersey Blaze.

Brooklyn Italians will play its inaugural season home games on the superb playing surface at John Dewey High School in the historic Coney Island section of Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Italians will play home and away fixtures with each divisional team for a total of 12 regular season games. Division champions will compete in Conference Championship on July 17 or 18, with the winner advancing the National Finals from July 29–31.


The Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club has been serving the New York Metropolitan area since 1949. Brooklyn Italians provides year round soccer programs, travel teams ranging from U8 thru U20, and also has an in-house “Youth Academy” program for 4 thru 10 year olds.
