SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Real San Jose were beaten by the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 in a friendly match played at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The Quakes had goals from Chris Wondolowski, Ismael Ibarra and Joey Gjertsen.

The Quakes dominated the match with RSJ only able to piece together few sparadic chances at goal. Defensively RSJ got good performances from the back four of Alex Plancarte, Anthony Abass, Eric Espinosa, and Kemo Djedovic. RSJ goalkeeper provided the best RSJ highlight with a nice diving save of a well placed header.

"Our guys battled the entire game and the Quakes were just too fit and fast for us. I am proud of the way we defended and we have a solid NPSL team," said RSJ manager Nick Arellano. "Thank you to John Doyle and Frank Yallop for giving us the opportunity to test ourselves against professional players and we wish the Quakes all the best this season."

The Earthquakes pressured RSJ early and often, finally breaking through in the 20th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. Chris Wondolowski put away a rebound off of a Joey Gjertsen corner to put the Quakes in front. RSJ held strong defensively and saw some possession but unable to breakdown a well organized Quakes defense.

The Quakes opened the second half just as they started the first and were almost instantly rewarded when a cross from the right wing found an ideally placed attacker who headed on target. Just as it appeared to be a certain goal Jonathan Arellano dove far to his left to finger-tip the ball wide. Not long after it was 2-0. Ismael Ibarra scored off of a through ball from Amarikwa in the 55th minute. Ibarra collected the pass and slid his shot underneath RSJ goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, Ibarra was at it again, this time setting up the third Quakes goal as Gjertsen finished from the penalty area in traffic.

The Earthquakes maintained their pressure the remainder of the match and made their 3-0 victory stand up, as Andrew Weber and Mike Graczyk shared the shutout.

Real San Jose now begin their preseason training at Yerba Buena High School in preparation of the upcoming National Premier Soccer League Season.
